Disabling Automatic Pop-up of Extended Description in Sage 100 ERP Inventory

I had to do this just to keep my sanity!

Recently, I was reviewing a client’s data to check on whether or not we had specified the Label Printing field in Inventory Maintenance correctly for all items. Each item that we had to modify, however, had an extended description, so I found myself having to close the Extended Description pop-up window for each item – a waste of time and very annoying. But it was easily fixed.

Most Sage 100 ERP users with inventory don’t need to or want to see the item’s extended description each time the access the item in Inventory Maintenance or Inquiry. It is quite easy to disable the default auto-display, thankfully:

  1. Log in to Sage 100 ERP using an admin role or as a user with rights to Role Maintenance.
  2. Open the Role Maintenance task and select the Role that you wish to modify.
  3. On the Security Events tab, expand Inventory Management and un-check the option “Allow Automatic Display of Full Extended Item Description When Not in a Grid“.
  4. Click Accept, and save the changes to the Role.

Now, the user is able to scroll through inventory items in the Inventory Maintenance and Inquiry tasks without the Extended Description popping up, but the Extended Description will still auto-appear during data entry tasks.

It really doesn’t take much to make me happy!
